Reproduction
Types
Sexual
Need
to find a mate - if you cant you could become extinct
Produces variation, meaning the species is more likely to survive if conditions change
Uses 2 gametes that join to produce
Meiosis and Mitosis
Phases
G1 phase - Synthesises proteins
S phase - DNA replication
G2 phase - The cell undergoes rapid and growth
Prophase - Chromatids form (look like (X's))
Metaphase - Meet and line up in middle of cell
Anaphase - Pulled apart to opposite ends of cell
Telophase Two cells made
Membranes form
Asexual
No need to find mate.
Plants can be grown in large numbers quickly
Offspring are genetically
identical
this means if you are not well adapted you can die out
In simple its basically cloning
Strawberries and spider plants
Runners are side shoots
which will grow out from
the parent plant
Buds form at points along the runner and eventually these buds form roots and grow into new plants
Gametes
Sex cell
Variation
Is where the offspring is different to the parents (only in sexual repro)
