In childhood may lead to lower educational, occupational, social and clinical outcomes

Strongly associated with persistent patterns of oppositional or dissocial behavior, aggression, or delinquency
Strongly correlated with oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, anxiety disorders, depression and bipolar disorders
Specific cause is unknown however issues may be related to neurotransmitter disregulation of dopamine and noradrenaline

Weak frontal cortical inhibitory control over limbic functions and frontolimbic dysfunction are thought to be part of the pathophysiology of ADHD

Neurofeedback, CBT are non-pharmacological interventions
Individual cognitive and behavioral therapy to change negative thought patterns and enhance self-esteem

If child or family history of significant heart disease, may need ECG and/or referral for cardiology
