Natural movement
Supination -movement of the forearm
Pronation - Movement of the foot
Regions of the body
Thorax - region of body formed by the sternum
Abdomen - region of the body that contains stomach, liver, intestines, etc.
Ventral - underside of an animal
Dorsal - Upper side or back of an animal
Anterior - Front of the body
Posterior - Back of the body
Movement of the arm
Flexion - flexing arm
Extension - straightening arm
Injury terms
Superficial - Occurring at the surface
Deep - Far down from top of the surface
Movement of the sole
Inversion - towards the median plane
Eversion - away from the median plane
Defining points of the body
Lateral - toward the side or sides of the body. Less medial
Medial - Closest to the midline of an organ
Superior - toward the head
Inferior - away from head
Cranial - Relating to skull
Caudal - At or near the tail
Planes
Transverse - Horizontal
Sagittal - Vertical plane front to back
Frontal - Vertical plane running from side to side
Identifying points of attachment
Distal - Center of the body or from the point of attachment
Proximal - Center of the point of attachment
Hands/Feet
Palmer - Palm of hand
Plantar - Tissue along the bottom that heel bone to toes
Movement of the limb
Abduction - Away from the midline of the body
Adduction - Toward the midline of the body
