In intracellular communication withing the matrix a neighboring cell may bind to a protein receptor at the surface of the phospholipid bilayer. This attachment will cause the protein receptor to change chemically and signal a chemical change in the cytoskeleton thus communicating important information to the nucleolus and function to the cell.
