After seeing Jojo's mum die he finnaly understands how bad the Nazi party is and that the Nazis are the villian not the Jews.
Having the Gestapo arrive at his house this makes the war seem more real and Jojo having to protect Elsa - someone he loves from the Nazi.

Jojo having to kill the rabbit but doesn't because he doesn't think its correct. Listening to the oppressed than the oppressor. He doesn't kill the rabbit like a good Nazi because the rabbit is fragile and small and he doesn't think he should.
