Expel Wind Damp
Du Huo
Self Reliant
Enters the Kidney and Bladder. Bitter, acrid and warm. Expels wind-cold-damp and releases the exterior, especially related to Shao Yin channel. Especially for Bi syndrome in the low back and legs, Shao Yin headaches, and toothache.
DUI YAO - Qiang Huo
Used together in Qiang Huo Sheng Shi tang. Du Huo and Qiang Huo both enter the Kidney and UB. Du Huo focuses on Shao Yin Kidney channel while Qiang Huo focuses on UB Tai Yang meridian. They both expel wind-cold-damp Bi syndrome. Du Huo focuses on the lower body and Qiang Huo on the upper. Together they treat the whole body.

Wei Ling Xian
Awesome Spiritual Immortal
Dispels wind-damp and unblocks the channels. Very mobilizing and yang in nature and can therefor exhaust those with low blood or qi. It's also salty and able to soften hardness and used for fish bones stuck in the throat.
Mu Gua
Wood Melon
Enters Liver and Spleen. Sour and warm. 2 main actions of this herb. It enters the spleen and stomach to treat sudden turmoil disorder (sudden nausea/vomiting and diarrhea, gastroenteritis). It is warm and dispels dampness to support the middle-jiao. Second function is to enter the liver to relax the sinews and dispel damp painful obstruction in the channels.
Wu Jia Pi
Five Additions Bark
Enters the kidney and liver. Acrid, bitter, warm. Dispels wind-damp. Tonifies kidney and liver yang qi. This herb goes to the liver and kidney and has two fold mechanism of action to benefit sinews and bones. It transforms dampness to dispel wind-cold-damp. It also augments the yang qi of the liver and kidneys to nourish the sinews and bones. Useful to treat aching joints, low back pain, leg pain. Also used for motor development delay in children.
Sang Ji Sheng

Enters Liver and Kidneys. Bitter, sweet and neutral. Expels wind-damp to help pain in low back and legs. Equally, if not more important, it tonifies Kidney and Liver yin and blood which heals, nourishes and strengthens the sinews and bones. Also tonifies blood to benefit the womb and pregnancy.
Hai Tong Pi
Erythrina Bark
Enters Liver, Spleen and Kidneys. Bitter acrid and neutral. Exples wind-damp in the lower half of the body. Especially for painful obstruction in the low back and knees or spasms. It also promotes urination to reduce edema. 6-15g.
Qin Jiao
Large Gentian Root
Enters Liver, Gallbladder and Stomach. Bitter, acrid and cool. Despels wind-damp to treat painful obstruction in the sinews and muscles. It is not overly drying, which herbs in this category can be predisposed to doing. Clears heat from yin deficiency to treat tidal fevers and steaming bone disorders. Also unique compared to other herbs in this class is that it is cool. 3-9g.
Sang Zhi
Mulberry Twig
Enters Liver. Bitter ,slightly cooling. Dispels wind-damp painful obstruction, especially in the upper extremities. It can treat pain, swelling, numbness and tingling. Unblocks the channels and collaterals.

Aromatic Transform Dampness
Huo Xiang
Aromatic and acrid and transforms dampness. It can also dispel summerheat-damp. It's slightly warm but not too hot or drying, so safe to use. Harmonizes spleen and stomach by transforming dampness. One of the best herbs to treat Spleen damp with dampness affecting Lung and exterior.
DUI YAO - Pei Lan
Both aromatically transform damp. Especially used for summerheat damp. Huo Xiang extends out to the exterior while Pei Lan can promote urination. Together they can treat all kinds of damp disorders (exterior/interior). Pei Lan is more harmonious while Huo Xiang is more dispersing. Use for fatigue, heavy sensation, stifling sensation in the chest and many other symptoms caused by damp.

Cang Zhu
Dries dampness and aromatically lifts the spleen. Also clears lower-jiao damp. Induces sweat for exterior wind-damp. One of the most important herbs to warm the spleen and aromatically transform dampness. Pairs very well with Hou Po because Hou Po moves qi and directs downward while Cang Zhu raises the Spleen qi upward.
DUI YAO - Huang Bai
Together these two herbs make up Er Miao San (Two-Marvel powder). Used to clear damp-heat in the lower-jiao for vaginal discharge. Also used for pain, swelling and weakness of the lower extremities due to damp-heat. Cang Zhu lifts while Huang Bai drains. Cang Zhu is warm while Huang Bai is cold.

Hou Po
Magnolia Bark
Enters Lung/LI and Sp/St. Bitter, acrid and warm. Enters the spleen and stomach to move qi and reduce stagnation of both formed and formless qi stagnation. Thereby drying dampness and transforming phlegm. It also enters the lung to transform phlegm and direct qi downward.
Sha Ren
Sand Seeds
Enter spleen and stomach. Acrid, warm and aromatic. This herb focuses exclusively on the spleen and stomach. It has 3 actions there: #1 warm. #2 move qi (it is acrid). #3 transform dampness (it is aromatic). Very focused on the middle-jiao. Also good for morning sickness/restless fetus/pregnancy issues related to the spleen and stomach.
DUI YAO - Shu Di Huang
Sha Ren is moving and prevents stagnation associated with the cloying nature of Shu Di Huang. It can also direct the action of Shu Di Huang to the Kidneys.
Sha Ren 2-5g, Shu Di Huang 10-30g
Pei Lan
Ornamental Orchid
Enters the spleen and stomach. Acrid and neutral. This herb aromatically transforms dampness, especially for long-term putrefaction that has accumulated in the spleen and stomach. Also has secondary weaker function of releasing exterior summer-heat damp.

Bai Dou Kou
White Caramon
Enters lung, spleen and stomach. Acrid, warm and aromatic. Enters the lung to disperse qi and remove phlegm-damp obstruction. Enters the spleen and stomach to warm and transform cold–damp. It is said to have a light, clear and intense aroma that can pierce through turbidity.
