Duncan's leadership - In the very beginning, Duncan is shown as a noble king whose loyal and thoughtful ruling of Scotland is obvious. We see him attending to the plights of his army sincerely. He rightfully acknowledges the achievements of his generals i.e. Macbeth and Banquo and rewards them timely.

- shows Duncan's kindness and respect as a king for his Thanes as he greets Macbeth
- presenting him to be a good king

- the image of a new-born baby suggests purity and innocence

Characterisation
- the natural order has been reestablished as the devine right of Kings
- Malcolm is guided by God, not evil like Macbeth
- when Malcolm says he will do what’s needed in ‘measure, time, and place’, the commas force the actor to pause, slow down and fully savour the moment, letting the audience breathe a collective sigh of relief
