Understanding the Different Text Types - Coggle Diagram

- - - - This type of factual text shows many points of views to a subject that is being discussed so that you can make an informed opinion or decisions in problems. Titles are usually in question form and the tense that should be used in writing should be present tense. It would start off with background information on the issue chosen before introducing the central areas. From then on, you would explore a lot of supporting devices wherein the generic statements should always be followed by particular examples and when showing an argument it would be supported with more evidence like diagrams, illustrations and more. Lastly, conclusions would sum up both sides of the argument before the writer gives their thoughts and recommendations about the issue and arguments that were present.
    - - An explanatory text explains things in a detailed but concise way. It is a piece of non-fiction writing. It usually starts with a central idea/key sentence, and then the topic is expounded chronologically. It may contain pictures and diagrams labeled with correct terminology for visual learners and are typically written in a simple present tense with a formal tone. It uses time connectives such as before, after, next, and just then. Any technical vocabulary should fit into a glossary at the end to help with jargon. Explanatory texts can be presented in numbered points that explain something step-by-step. Lastly, on the condition that many technical terms have been used which are uncommon, one may consider creating a glossary to help the readers clearly understand. In conclusion, an explanation text describes something non-fiction; it typically explains why we do something and the entire process.
    - - Procedural writing: Essentially, its purpose is to instruct/tell the reader how to accomplish a task. It gives a step-by-step process which demands the reader’s ability to follow instructions of “what you should have,” “what you should do,” and “when you should do it.” It is similar to explanatory texts but as to where explanatory describes a thing in-detail, procedural texts tell you what to do. They are commonly found in instructions, and cookbooks; It starts with the goal as the title, it can be in the form of a bullet list, numbers, etc, and it can be accompanied or replaced entirely with illustrations or diagrams.
    - - Its purpose is to convince the reader to agree with the writer’s opinion/viewpoint in an argument. An opening statement is placed at the beginning of the text, which summarizes the opinion presented in the text. The body will then discuss the opinion presented in depth. Finally, the closing statement will support the opinion discussed - especially the opening statement.
    - - The purpose of non-chronological reports is to give information about something that happened, but it isn't written in time order. Even if non-chronological reports don’t follow the usual structure of chronological reports, it has logical structure. The information is often by category and this report moves from a general opening statement about the topic to more specific and detailed information. A non-chronological report is usually written in present tense, sometimes it is written in past tense when for example a topic about a historical event. This type of factual text focuses on general subjects and can contain graphics such as tables, diagrams, or images.
    - - A recount text tells the story of a past experience or event, and its purpose is to inform and entertain. It can concentrate on either one aspect of an event or retell the entire story. This type of factual text is frequently written in the past tense, as if you were telling a friend about what happened earlier. It provides readers with background information necessary for understanding the text, such as who was involved, and where and when it occurred.
  - - - The goal of narrative text is to entertain or inform the reader. This category includes all types of writing that relate a series of events, including fiction (novels, short stories, and poems) and nonfiction (memoirs, biographies, news stories). Both forms tell stories with imaginative language that expresses emotion, frequently through the use of imagery, metaphors, and symbols.
    - - This literary work aims to educate, entertain, and spread knowledge, culture, and tradition. Every piece of poetry that is written has a purpose. Poetry employs grammatical, rhythmic, and lyrical patterns to give the reader a sense of harmony. Additionally, it's crucial to split the poem into lines and stanzas of varying lengths so the reader can understand each one. One unique quality of poetry is that, because of its rhythmic structures, it can be interpreted as a musical language. Finally, a poem might use a variety of literary devices to produce a certain feeling or expression.
    - - Drama entertains through storytelling by enacting it on stage. Usually, this literary work uses dialogue as a primary means of making the story flow. It follows the same types of plot structure as narrative forms, along with various conventions particular to this form itself. For example, instead of having chapters and parts such as in novels, drama has scenes and acts.
