The problem:
Farming
-
the agricultural industry is evolving rapidly with new systems and technologies that make farming more sustainable and easier to manage
Everyday life
-
many casual gardeners often forget to water their plants, leading to the death of many household plants
casual gardeners can also be unaware of when their plants need watering - tells are not extremely obvious and usually do not become apparent until after the plant is already damaged
nowadays, many people that have grown up in a digital environment do not spend enough time in nature (digital natives?)
in general, individuals are beginning to have less and less exposure to plants/nature. This is a problem, especially given the vast benefits of being around plants (see above)
The solution:
A plant pot that has a built-in moisture sensor and code that notifies when the plant needs to be watered
more sustainable, saves water by preventing unnessecary watering of plants
notifies the owner when the plant needs to be watered, preventing plant deaths and/or plant damage due to lack of water
if marketed correctly, the pot itself can become a feature in many households, improving wellbeing amongst a large demographic of people.
if coded correctly, can connect to automatic watering systems and allow for the automated watering of plants - no need for humans
appealing towards the casual plant owner - you don't need to understand the ins and outs of plant owning because the pot does it for you
