✔ Contact your B.I.T. team (Building Intervention Team) from your school and have a meeting to discuss your concerns, share data, observations, interviews about the student and if any intervention is needed. This can range from school counselors, to reading specialists, principal, that are included on the B.I.T. team
🛑 No concerns, intervention is declined at that time, continue as normal.
✔ Yes, intervention is needed, Teachers provide a general ed intervention to help support the student.(2-3 weeks of intervention with progress montoring)
🛑 Intervention WORKS, student continues to receive support and maintains grade level.
✔ Intervention DOES NOT work or shows minimal growth then another B.I.T. meeting is scheduled again to discuss any other interventions or resources that can be used to help support the student. (2-3 weeks of intervention with progress montoring)
✔ If intervention still DOES NOT work and the B.I.T. team feels that they have exhausted all resources / interventions and feels that a learning disability is impeding the student from achieving grade level standards then a Special Ed referral is made.
✔ The teacher or member of the B.I.T. team will contact the parents of the student and let them know that the Education Resource Center (ERC) will be contacting them for permission to start their evaluation.
-
✔ Parents accept and sign the permission form to start the evaluation process. (ERC has 60 days to complete the evaluation process) ERC will decide if the student meets the eligibility requirements for receiving special services through testing, and gathering of existing data. Each of the 14 eligible categories of disability included in IDEA has unique qualifications. There must be an impact on the student's education caused by the disability to qualify for special services.
Student DOES NOT meet any eligibility requirements. Student does not qualify for special services, but ERC can help provide resources, but no services are given to help with the student's learning.

✔ Student DOES qualify under one or more of the 14 categories then an Individualized Education Progam (IEP) is set into place. Services will start with in 30 days of the evaluation meeting determining eligibility. This program will be laid out in a very specific, very long document and will be reviewed annually in an IEP meeting.
🛑 Intervention works, student continues to receive support and maintians grade level.
