Factual Texts are to inform, instruct, or persuade readers using facts and knowledge.
Discussion Text
Poetry Text
Literary Texts aim to entertain, enlighten or elicit emotion through the imaginative use of language and structure.
The purpose of a discussion text is to analyze more than one point of view on a given subject to reach an informed opinion or make a decision on an issue.

Explanatory Text
Instructional/Procedural Text
Provides in-depth descriptions and additional information such as causes, reasons, and the 'why' or 'how'.
Persuasive Text
A persuasive text influences the reader to believe a particular point of view or take a specific course of action.

Non-Chronological Reports
Why we should go to bed early.
Going to bed early is beneficial to our health. According to an article by Health MD, sleeping early increases energy levels, controls one's body weight, decreases stress levels, and improves one's memory.
Recounts
Varies in forms so that it is able to fit its own specific purposes such as limericks for amusing readers while elegies for either praising or mourning.
Narrative Text
Drama
The purpose of narrative texts is to tell a story. It can be myths, legends, fables and many more.
Endeavors to tell a story through enacting it on the stage, usually requiring the use of dialogue as a primary means of moving the story on.

Recounts texts retells the event and it is usually done to inform or entertain.
Example:
"I remember walking down the street near the abandoned part of town on one rainy night, it was there that I saw two suspicious looking men carrying what seems to be a body bag"

Instructions and procedural texts communicate rules or methods to follow, telling readers what to do.
They do not follow the usual practice of chronological reporting meaning that a Non-Chronological report gives out information about a topic which doesn't follow any kind of timeline of events.

Get to know The Giant Pandas.
The giant panda, also known as the panda bear, is a bear species endemic to China.
What do they look like?: They are characterized by its bold black-and-white coat and rotund body. The name "giant panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the red panda, a neighboring musteloid.
What do they do?: Pandas play an important role in the forest ecosystem where they live. Seeds and plant matter collects on their fur, which is then deposited as they move throughout their habitat. They also climb trees and swim, which further helps disperse the seeds.
What do they eat?: Pandas subsist almost entirely on bamboo, eating from 26 to 84 pounds per day.
