Balance
Symmetry
The balance of symmetry in rooms helps create a visually balanced feel to the space, which can help make the environment feel more comfy and inviting.
Symmetry is when the shape of half of one side is the same on the other side, there are multiple lines of symmetry that a shape can have.
When it comes to a room being symmetrical, it first starts of with wether the room itself is a symmetrical shape, then the furniture itself plays a role in placement, shape and size.
asymmetry
A room can be balanced by the repetition of similar forms, lines and colours, but there is no mirroring or exact duplication.
-
Asymmetry is the form of unbalanced design that can still look aesthetically pleasing, in some cases although unbalanced in nature it can still come across as balanced.
Radial balance
-
Commonly radial balance can be seen used for dinning arrangements, with a light feature/chandelier in the centre then the dining table and chairs pointing outwards from it.
-
Inward radial balance can be for example; a living space arrangement of sofas and or armchairs designed in a circular manner with more space closer the centre point.
Without the full careful utilisation of the space of a room, it can cause a lack of cohesive sense of form and function that makes them attractive and usable.
-
Visual tricks
Perception of space determines where and what type of objects are placed and what gives off the most appealing look from the placement.
-
The placement of furniture/objects isn't just to make a room more visually pleasing, but to also provide the utilisation of the space and make a room feel comfortable and less overcrowded.
The effect of colours
Brighter colours have a more expanding feel on the room, whereas darker colours have shrinking feel on the room, making the room feel more closed in.
Painting certain walls within a room can have many different effects on how the space feels and looks in the room.

-
Shortening the space (one wall painted, also known as a feature wall)
Rhythm
-
Repeating colour, pattern, texture and shapes throughout a space
Rhythm is commonly used in the perception of space to make your eyes move around the room in a organized fashion.
It also allows helps how the viewer of the interior perceives that space in terms of its appearance and functionality.
Rhythm can be seen in many open community environments; such as restaurants, parks, shopping centers, etc.
Most commonly rhythm comes in the form of furniture or feature lights, for example tables and chairs in a cafe might be arranged for the best functionality as well as good opening appearance.
Scale & proportion
The idea of scale and proportion revolves around how items fit together in your space. Proportion refers to how well those pieces fit together. Scale refers to how well your pieces fit in your space.
Style/Aesthetic
Visual aspects
There are many visual aspects and methods to consider when looking into Interior design, this involves the means of implementing all other forms and how they should come together as a whole.
A majority of the elements that come together when designing an interior must be balanced and well thought out.
Functional space is a key element that allows for the best usability and takes advantage of the space available within an interior.
-
Details
When it comes to interior design, everything that can have design potential an can be implemented in as a part of the interior design will have an impact on the overall look.
The details of interior design tend to be the smallest things that might tend to be left out when home designing, this comes in the smallest forms from purposefully selected decorations to light switch covers.
The details of interior design is quite literally what it would mean, its the smaller, finer details to close off the whole interior and bring the whole design process together.

-
Factors such as balance, color, movement, pattern, scale, shape and visual weight all accumulate into the style chosen for an interior.
-
Style and aesthetics plays a huge part into preferences and taste as everyone as individuals likes and is pleased/comfortable in different aesthetics.
Interior texture
Surface textures of the interior design can have a huge overall effect on what a room could look like.
-
Foam wall pads that are made to make a wall's texture look completely different from what its made from.
-
-
Interior texture's purpose is to create visual weight within the room, rough, rustic aesthetics create more of a warm cozy environment, whereas the use of more sleek, shiny and smooth textures create a more contemporary finish.
Colour design
-
Unity
Is the use of colours and gradients in the design process is to keep everything grounded so that all visuals objects hold a similarity with each other.
It is known to use a negating unity method when design interior spaces, this usually entails the use of a wider variety of colours which gives off a more bold and chaotic feel.
-
Visual unity could be considered when choosing two different colours that need to complement each other well or having the same colour of varying saturations.
Warm tones, like red, orange and yellow can energise a space and its occupants. Cool tones such as blue, green and purple generally create quiet, relaxing atmospheres.
