Mesopotamia
Location:In the text it said that "the ancient Greeks called
Mesopotamia, meaning between rivers."Mesopotamia is now modern day Iraq.(Steele 6)

Writing:At first there was no way to record records of ownership, business deals, and government. The first people to make a writing system were the Sumerians.Cuneiform was one of the first languages ever written.they used clay and a Reed stylus for making cuneiform.

Art: Public art was Statues of rulers and famous battle that had been won or lost.Crafts were a more of a village art.They created decorative Ivory which had on it a carving of a woman looking out the window. This was sometimes involved with other silks like gemstones , gilding, or staining.They also make breaks and yarn.

Religion: On page 14 it said the Babylonians worshiped the goddess Ishtar and for their main god they also worshiped Marduk.In Babylon there was a clay statue of a goddess known as Queen of the night.It stands in a shrine. It is said that it possibly represents Ishtar ,the goddess of fertility and war.(Steele 14)

Government:The rulers or governors were honored with several titles including the following en(lord), ensi(governor), or lugal(king). Each dynasty had been recorded on a clay tablet know as the king's list. There was a queen that was given this head piece with diamonds and flowers. Queen Puabi wore this to show her place amongst the people. Meslime was an ancient stone that stude for the king of Kish who wanted power.Most of their government did.

Ancient Egypt
Location:On page 8 it said that since desert covered 90 percent of Egypt, people lived on the banks of the Nile River.Also in the text it said that "when the Nile water subsided, the farmers went to work sowing barley and emmer wheat."(Hart)
Writing: Scribes were of a selected few of the smart Egyptians who were chosen to keep track of events and whatever else the king wanted written down. "Hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, temples, tombs, and religious papyri.

Art: Egyptians had a lot of parties that involved music,songs , and dance.They had festivals with people who would play flutes, harps, and castanets. Another tool they used was sacred rattle which was at ceremonies.The paintings found in tombs were done by painters which looked like things the Egyptians lifestyle or richeals that took place for certain occassions .Also sowing was an art and a very skilled thing that needed to be done for clothes. Jewelry was made of gold and stones and gems. (Hart)

Religion: On page 24 it said"At dawn he would be Khepri, the scarab beetle rolling the Sun disk above the eastern horizon. Also on page 24 is said they had many different gods and gods. Most of them represented animals.
Architecture:One of the most popular textures was the Pyramids. Pyramids were meant to be a stairway for the souls of Egyptians to join the sun god in the afterlife.
Ancient China:
Government: In class we discussed what was known as the Mandate of Heaven. There are four principles for the Mandate of Heaven number one: Heaven grants the emperor the right to rule, number two: Since there is only Heaven, there can only be one emperor at one given time, number three:The emperor's virtue determines his right to rule, and fourthly: No one dynasty has a permanent rule.(Mrs. Brower) Dynasty Chart

Writing:On page 11 it said that the Shang kings used the oracle bones to communicate with Ancestors about important questions. Also it states "cracks were then read to discover the answer to a question put to the ancestors."

Technology:On pages 22 and 23, they discribe some of China's greatest inventions like paper and gunpowered. The architect of the Great wall of China and the Forbidden city. The Great wall of China is the most commonly known.

Art: On page 16 it states that Emperor Qin had people make him an army to protect in the afterlife. This army was called the terracotta warriors. they were made to look like real life." No two soldiers look the same face , each is an individual portrait." (Arthur Cotterell)

Location: On page 6 it says" Ancient China remained untouched by outside influences because it was apart of the world." The land consisted of deserts and mountains rage which cut China off from the culture of these palaces: India, West Asia, and Europe.It is West of the U.S.

Indus River Valley/ Aryans
Location: About five-thousand years ago people started to settle in South Asia. This was the location of Indus Valley Civilization. A vast number of settlements grow in this region.(Prentice Hall World Studies)
Writing: On the website page it says the writing of South Asia is still a mystery. It descibes in the page that the writing can't be disafied. "Many of the symbols are located on seals, ceramic pots, and other types of materials. (Prentice Hall World Studies)
Government:The Aryan civilization had a large impact. In the text it said that the Aryan was the group that made the Caste system. The author also wrote "A caste is a social group in which people are born and cannot change."Prentice Hall: World Studies
Religion: In the text it says " The religion of the ancient Aryans, known as Brahmanism, was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism." Between these two religions there are a lot of religious ritauls which are performed in the Ganages River.
Architecture/tech:In the text, it said "In many homes, some rooms had facilities in which waste water is directed to cover drains." (Prentice Hall: World studies) This passage also states that they were very caring towards hygiene. The Indus cities also have very advanced architecture which made the houses very stable.
