How birds do fly?
-Birds use their wings by flapping them.
- A bird's wing acts as a propeller. The basal part of the wing gives most of the supporting surface, the wing tip most of the propelling force.
- Flight involves moving upward against the force of gravity and forward too.
- The power for this comes from the massive chest muscles pull the wings down.
- The size and shape of the birds affect the way a bird flies.
For this activity learners have to draw wings and colour the drawing.
- We are also going to flap our arms and pretend as if they are wings
- Listen to a song about wings
Bird structure?
- Birds have a different anatomy from other animals and they have several structural adaptations, this makes them more sustainable.
Wings- these are the most distinctive feature of a bird. Wings are their modified front legs, without wings, birds cant fly
- Feathers are a chief distinguishing feature of a bird. They are made up of keratin and have many functions such as, enabling birds to fly. They also help them to insulate their bodies.
- The beak is lightweight. This is an example of structural adaptation for flight in birds. The shapes and sizes of beaks vary with birds. The main function of a beak is to eat, preen, feed, collect things and attack their prey also defend themselves.
