Nutrition Guidelines for CF, AUS & NZ
Aim to achieve and maintain optimal weight status and encourage people with CF to be physically active and choose amounts of nutritious foods and drinks to meet individual energy needs

Promote enjoyment of a wide variety of nutritious foods from all five food groups every day.

Routine supplementation of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) is encouraged, particularly in those who are pancreatic insufficient
Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) is recommended for all people who are
pancreatic insufficient and should be taken with fat-containing foods
Oral supplements should be considered on an individual basis, the evidence does not support their routine use

Symptoms of dehydration include: fatigue, loss of appetite, impaired performance, difficulty concentrating, and can contribute to difficulty expectorating sputum and blockages in the distal intestine

Sweat electrolytes are elevated ---> low serum sodium, chloride & osmolarity
Interventions

Educateappropriate distribution of PERT per fat content. Provide fat counters, amounts of fat in favourite foods. Investigate usual intake at home.

Biochemical deficiency of vitamins in CF patients even those receiving exocrine pancreatic enzymes and multiple vitamin preparations
