Bird feeders
-Houses and buildings disturbs birds from finding food and bird feeders helps birds. -This helps birds and help us to live together (Mayntz, 2019).
Activity: Bird feeder. Using fruit peels, peanut butter and seeds and placing it on a tray in the garden (Pre-k printable fun, 2021).
Bird Baths
-Bird baths help to attract birds to an area. - It gives birds water to drink and to bath (Rabiedeau, 2022).
Nest
-Nests protects eggs and baby birds (Mayntz, 2021).
-Nests are built close to shelters to protect them in sever weathers (Mayntz, 2021). -Birds use animal fur, grass, feathers, moss and other materials to help cushion them (Mayntz, 2021).
Activities: Birds nest craft. Learners will design and build a nest out of recyclables (Preschool toolkit, 2018).
Social Science
Migration
-Birds move from one place to another when it gets cold and there is no food.
Birds migrate to find food and breed (Mocomi, n.d).
-Which birds don't migrate? Answer: birds in tropical reason where it is warm and there is enough food (Mocomi, n.d).
Activity: pretend to fly. first let the learners just fly around. Then let the learners fly in a v form. illustrate using a fan and a paper in a v form to see what happens. Discuss. (How we learn, 2016)
Extinction
-Extinction is when all the birds are gone. -Aspects that cause birds extinction is birds losing their habitat to humans, hunting them for sport, birds flying into glass windows of tall buildings and putting plants and animals from other places that don’t belong in an area that changes the environment (Poppie, 2022).
Activity: Bird Scavenger Hunt. Print photos of common birds found in Cape Town and hang it around the school. Children will have piece of paper with these birds on them. One extinct bird will be on the with no photo. Give them a pencil and they must find these birds (Pre-k printable fun, n.d)

Characteristics
-Birds lays eggs. -They have feathers, wings, beaks and no teeth. -Even though bats looks like birds they are not (Bright hub education, 2010).
Activity: Cutting out different parts of birds and pasting them together to form a bird (Simple mom project, n.d).
Anatomy
-Internal anatomy: bones, lungs, a heart. -External anatomy: feathers, eyes, bills (beaks). Their bodies are important for their protection flying (HSTI, n.d).
Activity: Assembling bird with felt lungs, heart, feathers, eyes, bills.
How do birds fly?
-Not all birds can fly. -Those that but those that can do so use its because of their lightweight bones, strong muscles to support their wings and curved shape wings (HSTI, n.d).
Activity: Helping children understand the principles about flying by making a whirly twirly flying birds. Lift and thrust will be spoken about (Left brain craft brain, n.d).
