Osteoarthritis
Definition
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic joint condition. OA is also called wear-and-tear arthritis, degenerative arthritis, and degenerative joint disease.
Symptoms

Pathophysiology
OA causes inflammation, changes in bone shape, and cartilage deterioration. It is primarily a disease affecting the cartilage.

past injury, such as torn cartilage, dislocated joints, or ligament injuries

having family with the condition, particularly parents or siblings

Complications
osteonecrosis, or bone death

hemarthrosis, or bleeding near the joints
Treatment

Topical pain relievers, creams, gels, patches and ointments
ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn)
Corticosteroids, cortisone and triamcinolone acetonide (Kenalog-40, Zilretta)
