Enzymes - Coggle Diagram
Enzymes
What is an enzyme?
~ Enzymes increase the rate of biological reactions with being used up
~ Enzymes are biological catalysts
:
~ Enzymes are proteins that are folded into complex shapes
Examples of enzymes
~Catalase
Lipase
~ Amalase
~ Pepsin
How do enzymes work?
~ The active site is the part of the enzyme where the substrate combines.
~ The product is the substance{s} the enzyme forms
~ The substrate is the substance with which an enzyme reacts.
Induced Fit
~ The two bind together to form an enzyme- substrate complex.
~ The reaction between them takes place rapidly.
~ The shape of the enzyme's active site is complimentary to the shape of one particular substrate.
~ The products are released from the enzymes active site.
