- Identify device connectivity option.
-
Hub
-
Accepts signals from a transmitting node and repeats those signals to all other connected nodes in a broadcast fashion.
limited features and the fact that they merely repeat signals within a single collision domain, hubs were replaced by routers and switches.
Bridges
devices that connect two network segment by analysing incoming frames and making decision about where to direct them based on each frame's MAC address.
-
Switches
connectivity devices that subdivide a network into smaller logical pieces, or segments.
-
-
they have multiple ports, switches can make better use of limited bandwidth and prove more cost efficient than bridges.
Router
-
Routers can integrate LANs and WANs running at different transmission speeds and using a variety of protocols
-
-
Modem
-
Convert either digital signal to analog signal (modulation) and analog signal to digital signal (demodulation).

- Describe fiber optic cabling and its main advantages over other media.
-
b. Longer Transmission distances. A fiber optic cable is a low power loss medium, meaning you can achieve higher bandwidths over greater transmission distances. Fiber optic cables can reach 10's of kilometer in distance compared to the maximum 100-meter distance that is the limit of copper cables.
c. Stronger Security. Fiber optic cable keeps data secure. It does not radiate signals and is very difficult to tap without your knowledge. It has higher physical security as all hardware and electronics can be installed in one central location, unlike copper systems, where equipment is required to be installed within distribution locations throughout a facility.
