Signs and symptoms
Pain in infected area
Malaise
Swelling, warmth and redness over infected area
Fever
Pathophysiology
When a local infection of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus extends into the periosteum of the bone
Nursing intervention
Administer prescribed antibiotics and analgesics to relieve infection and pain
Promote a diet high in protein and vitamin C and D
Protect affect limb by supporting and elevating it to reduce swelling
Offer Tepid sponging to reduce high temperature

Nursing diagnosis
Impaired physical mobility due to stiffness of affected area
Activity intolerance related to decreased muscle tone
Causes
Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that has spread through bloodstream or nearby tissues into bones

Antibiotics e.g penicillinase-resistant penicillin,
NSAIDS
