Shepard Fairey art work "all the free speech money can buy"…
Shepard Fairey art work "all the free speech money can buy" showcases the corruptness, and control in the government. how only the rich and influential are allowed to make statements and distribute their opinions, and the minorities are invalidated because they don't have these privileges
satire art
contrast and contradiction: Fairey purposely places the politician behind a magazine, as a magazine shows public ideas, and by him placing the politician in front of indicates that the governments voice is superior to ours. Fairey then blurs out the text to further his point of the insignificance of the publics opinion
he also contradicts the intention of the candidate on the poster. Fairey shows inspiration eye contact, and a heroic body stance but as the text suggests he is in this position with his power/money and none of his intentions are sincere, or helpful towards the American citizens
this feature really makes the audience think of the piece in a deeper understanding, as they consider the actual meaning about this small features eg the magazine, and how it connects to the reality of the situation
Fairey questions the intention of government usually government is an institution that stabilises the country's needs eg financial, but provides a support system t the citizen eg health care education, protection of human rights but since the light Fairey shines on the government is negative, he contradicts the purpose of the government and questions its intention regarding the citizens, roles, and efficiency.
usage of short text
Fairey uses slogans in a similar manner in campaign, and election for government roles.
anti authoritarian theme
holds the government accountable for control, and unfairness towards the public
showcases the importance of money, and how that is value over the publics opinions. Money> country's voice
elections
fairey usues the circumstance of an election to give the impression that the public is voting, but due to the importace of money,a nd corruptness the goverment will choose the candidate based on his power, influence/connection, and money
this relates to Malawi as sometimes the government fakes the votes, and goes to extreme length for one candidate instead of providing fairness for a competition.
simplistic colour theme so when Fairey does use bright colours it adds emphasis and create a focal point for the audience.
