Genres of Poem
Narrative poetry
Poetry that contains plot, character, conflict and resolution, also filled with action and dialogue

Descriptive poetry
A poem that describes something in detail, for example describe an object, person etc.
Type of poem
Haiku
Haiku has 3 lines, with the syllables of 5-7-5. The rhyme scheme of Haiku poem is ABA.
Limerick
Limerick poem has a stanza that consist of 5 lines and the rhyme scheme of the Limerick poem is AABBA.
Ode
Ode poem is about an individual, an idea, or an event. The most common rhyme scheme of the Ode poem is ABABCDECDE and each stanza has 10 lines each. An Ode poem usually contains around 3 to 5 stanzas.
Sonnet
Sonnet poem contains of 14 lines and they are divided into 4 subgroups. The first, second, and third subgroups are quatrains. Usually each line in the Sonnet Poem contains 10 syllables, which are phrased in iambic pentameter.
Epic
Epic poem is about the adventure of a hero, written in formal style, contains third-person, and omniscient narrator.

Ballad
Ballad poem tells a story and it consist of three main stanza and one quatrain. The first 3 stanzas has 8 lines each. The rhyme scheme of the Ballad poem is ABABBCBC for the 3 stanzas, and BCBC for the quatrain.
Elegy
Elegy poem usually is about death and losses. It has four lines, with the rhyme scheme of ABAB. Each line of the Elegy poem is written in iambic pentameter.
