Mercury, Mercury transits only happens once every 7 years, so that's…

Mercury and Earth moon look alike because they both been struck by asteroids. They both no atmosphere. If they did have an atmosphere, man of the caters would have been eroded away. Both have no plate tectonics to transform to a landscape, that would also remove a lot of caters.
since Mercury is really close to the sun it is hard to observe. The mariner 10 space craft flew by mercury 3 times in 1974-1975. in 2011 it became the first to enter orbit wither Mercury. They got a lot of pictures and it shows interesting features of the planet.

Mercury has been around since the 2nd Millennium BC. it was noticed by the Sumerians and t was recorded by the babylonians. they named the planet Nabu. Ancient greeks called it Apollo when it would appear in the sky in the morning and hermens in the evening. It was named after the god Mercury.

Mercury is named after the Roman messenger god, he was the messenger because he could run extremely fast. The Greeks gave the planet the name because it orbits the Sun quickly. Mercury orbits the Sun in 88 earth days. It has a very short year, but Mercury rotates slowly on it axis; turning exactly three times for every two times it orbits the Sun. So each day on Mercury is 58 earth days long.
Mercury has really long days. The days on mercury last 58 days and 15 hours on earth. A year in Mercury is only 88 days.

Mercury is the smallest planet and it has no moon. Mercury is the planet closest to the sun. The impact craters are billions years old this means that mercury hasn't changed much.
There is some evidence that shows that there were volcanoes on mercury. A messenger probe flyby in some cases the spacecraft saw where lava oozed on the surface after a impact.
There might be ice on Mercury. The craters around the poles of the planet have never been heated because they are in a shadow and they have be hundred of degrees below 0. Water could form ice and it could last for millions of years.
Mercury transits only happens once every 7 years, so that's about 13 to 14 transits a century.

Mercury reaches the point in it's orbit when the speed of it's orbital velocity matches its angular orbital velocity. The Sun appears to go backward in the sky when that happens.

The Hubble space telescope can't and never will be able to observe Mercury because Mercury is so close to the Sun, the Sun will overwhelm the hubble. It could also permanently damage it
