GRAPES of Mesopotamia
Geography Pedro
- The area of Mesopotamia was really fertile, some of the most fertile land in southeast Asia is found there. Surrounding this area was full of deserts, in consequence large migrations of population came over to Mesopotamia.
- This created one of the biggest cities of the time, Sumer.
- The really fertile land caused mass amounts of farming. Creating a good farming central for anyone around.
- The Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, Mesopotamia can be found in between the rivers, made many civilizations rich with food and water for everyone, but this caused cities surrounding them to not have as big of a population and eventually become ghosted.
- With nearly no protection, floods were common, left defenseless the population would have to commonly rebuild their cities. This brings another disadvantage, the lack of building material. This caused materials to be scarce and many would in consequence lose their homes.

Social Structures- Pedro
- Kings, Landholders, and priests were of the higher class, their jobs were to influence the population.
- Wealthy merchants were next. They made up almost all of the trade in this time period
- Peasants were commoners that were low in social class but this made up the majority of the population. They made up most of the jobs
.
- Slaves were of the lowest class, they did manual labor with no pay, they were only given the conditions to live and nothing more. Most farming was done by the slaves.
-
This civilization grew many crops in their fertile land alongside the river banks and irrigation systems, they also harvested mud to help build(could be inferred because they needed a surplus of mud to build their walls/houses), and crafted tools/weapons. they traded the tools and weapons they created along with grain and cloth. They received things such as stone, wood, and metal in exchange for their trades.

The people that resided in ancient Mesopotamia believed in multiple gods (polytheism). What they couldn't control, they usually believed was their gods' doing. This meant priests were the highest class of the people along with nobles. People worshipped gods very frequently. This affected them by leading to more jobs for builders to help build temples and places of worship which helped form an economy.

The wheel, plow, and cuneiform are examples of achievements.
- Wheels were significant because they helped carry heavy crops for trade.
- Plows were significant because to make farming more efficient than doing it all by hand.
- Cuneiform was significant because writers could tell stories, relate histories, and support the rule of kings. Because of cuneiform people, good communication for trade and explaining ideas.
- kings ruled Mesopotamia, and each king ruled one city rather than the entire civilization. Each king designed the rules and systems they thought would benefit their people the most
- The government controlled the irrigation system.
