Mesopotamia's social structure was ranked based on what their job was and how much money land had. The various social classes were Priests, kings, government officials, scribes, merchants, nobles, farmers and slaves. Kings ruled cities and oversaw them. Priests were religious leaders who were in charge of keeping the gods happy and had power over the beliefs of the people. Slaves were either foreigners or Sumerians who were sold into slavery as children. Scribes were in charge of recording information. Government officials oversaw the laws and regulations of the city. Merchants traded with each other to obtain the resources they required. Nobles were middle class citizens. Farmers grew crops to be sold and traded.
