Analyzing and Interpreting data.
DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION: DEFINITION AND PURPOSE
Resume data.
By obtaining reliable data these are impossible to deny.
The data answers the question So what? (Findings)
Exhaustive data analysis is carried out so that the results are as close to reality as possible.
It is important to answer two questions about your research question.
It is important not to rush the investigation and obtain our own analyzes without completing all the information.
It is important to answer two questions about your research question.
The time that data analysis takes is indefinite and depends on all the information to be analyzed and the skills of the researcher.
B. Are your data collection techniques catch-ing the kind of data you want and filtering out the data that you don’t want?
A. Is your research question still answerable and worth answering?
STEPS IN ANALYZING QUALITATIVE RESEARCH DATA
Data analysis is a cycle that allows you to review some data.
Write about what happens in the analyzed environment and classify the data.
Underline important topics
Describe the complexity of the investigation
Group the data into general categories to simplify all the information and improve its management, thus finding connections between all the analyzed data.
DATA ANALYSIS STRATEGIES
The
theme identification
is the strategy that allows to identify the ideas that come from the collection of all the data.
Codification
is the process in which we mark the texts with codes or give them labels. With this, we reduce to make them easier to handle and analyze.
The
organizational review
focuses on the vision, mission, goals, objective, structure, operation and the problems that arose from the analyzed topic.
A
concept mapping
creates a visual presentation of the generalized study.
The
analysis of antecedents and consequences
allows knowing the causes and consequences of the study.
Showing the findings
implies summarizing what is known about the study.
Indicate what is not yet known
allows the researcher to reflect on what is still unanswered.
DATA INTERPRETATION STRATEGIES
It is based on the aspects that the research data have in common and the links that connect them.
The objective of the research is based on these four questions.
A. What is important in the data?
B. Why is it important?
C. What can be learned from it?
D. So what?
A good way to personalize interpretations is to base them on knowledge of the subject and understanding of the setting.
The collaboration of critical friends and researchers is important.
The bibliography allows to support the findings of the study.
The data obtained can also be linked to other investigations to extend them.
Provide clear and easy to understand data collection, analysis and interpretation.
ENSURING CREDIBILITY IN YOUR STUDY
To verify reliability, answer these questions
A. Are the data based on one’s own observation or on hearsay?
B. Are observations corroborated by others?
C. In what circumstances was an observation made or reported?
D. How reliable are those providing the data?
D. What motivations may have influenced a participant's report?
E. What biases may have influenced how an observation was made or reported?
And the following steps must be followed:
