Review on a journal: Teacher- Student relationship
Personal construct theory
proposed by George Kelly
a person organize their experiences in a way that is meaning for them.
discusses the relationship between personal construct and experience.
concept of 'construct' is the central of this theory
element- the things or events that are abstracted by a 'construct'
construct is characterized through elements
it helps individual describe a phenomena (Ex: people, objects, events, ...)
Repertory grid technique
gives the holistic view of an individual, can be done in their own terms
through this technique, people are able to discover personal constructs
Ex: how they experience attitudes, thoughts, feelings
the grid is useful for teachers to have a mind change on teaching approaches (Diamond, 1988)
Discussion
limited positive interactions and controlled impositions (Ex: seating arrangements) damaged the relationship between the teacher and students
teachers' concern towards individual pupil should be taken into consideration
it supports and develops child's relationship with the teacher
Unfriendly behavior, lack of reciprocity are the causes for relationship breakdown between the teacher and students
teachers should use verbal and non-verbal communication with their students
pupils needed to hear, see and interact with teacher
