Value Added Activity
Work/time that directly increases the value of the product in the eyes of the customer (e.g. Assembly of parts) or reduces its cost

Incidental Activity

Work/time that does not directly add customer value or reduce cost,
but which is currently necessary to maintain operations

Efficient Frontier
Improvement (e.g. setup cost reduction) creates options to increase differentiation or cost-efficiency

Productivity
measures the efficiency of transforming “inputs” into outputs over a given time period (monthly, quarterly, annual)

to compare performance over time or among locations, competitors, etc.
- OE and NPV are more powerful indicators of value than productivity
