Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP)
SIOP is a research-based, instructional model that is highly effective in addressing the academic needs of English learners. The protocol provides a framework for teachers as they design and deliver lessons that make content comprehensible.
The SIOP Model provides a useful and effective framework for teaching English Learners. Comprised of 8 key components and 30 features, the SIOP can help teachers plan, deliver and reflect upon instruction to more effectively teach English Learners.

Content objectives
Content Objectives identify what students should know and be able to do at the end of the lesson. These objectives will frequently be used to form assessments. They are derived from the core standards. They focus on the “What.”
Language Objective
Language objectives are lesson objectives that are specifically designed to promote students' language development through all four language domains: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
key words
Keywords are words or phrases that users type into search engines to find relevant content for their queries. Because keywords come from search queries, incorporating these terms into your content strategy helps search engines rank your website pages and users find your content when looking for it.
Strategy and activities
Strategy instruction is a teaching practice that shows students how to learn the content or skills they need to acquire. It provides students with clear strategies (such as note-taking or thinking aloud) to help them process, remember, and express the information they learn.
Assessment
In education, the term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational needs of students.
