MORALITY, My friends affect my morality as they are the individuals my age…
MORALITY
My age affects my morality as a 16 year old because I feel like I am in a relative spot in my life where I am young and making mistakes and learning about myself is critical at this age. Defining myself and setting boundaries is what a 16 year old should be doing, so trying out new things and learning what works and doesn’t ( by making mistakes and doing stupid things) at my age is socially acceptable. If I was older, my definition of morality should be very clear and the amount of mistakes I make would be less acceptable as I should “know better”

Other people's actions and those consequences affect my morality because my sense of what society deems as moral or immoral can be affected by the way society interacts with individuals other than myself. When I observe someone else interacting with society and I see the consequences of those actions, I tend to form definitions of what’s socially acceptable or not. My actions are also influenced by the consequences of others actions.

My friends affect my morality as they are the individuals my age and in my situation and we all share similar lifestyles. If something seems negative or bad to them that I don’t, I often question myself or the logic behind their opinions to see if I am missing something. A lot of the things I consider to be right or wrong are partially affected by them since they are who I surround myself with and they give me different perspectives on situations I wouldn’t be able to see with my own eyes.
My sister affects my morality because she has always been around me even when my parents aren’t there. Whenever I have a question or feel conflicted about anything I always go to her for answers. She always gives me advice based on what she thinks is right and since she knows a lot more than me I often treat her like my moral compass.
My surroundings and environment affect me because morality tends to be relative based on what society deems are right, wrong, or correct. As a result, my surroundings control what people should think of as right or wrong and people try to conform to society’s definition of morals and ethics(including me). Even though it shouldn’t be the case, my definition of morality is also defined by my interactions with my surroundings.
Social media affects my morality because it portrays one sided extreme aspects of people’s lives that aren’t regular. Although these are unrealistic examples of humanity, people look at social media and set standards for themselves based on this. Since social media is a prevalent factor popular in many people’s lives, what they see online sends them images or ideas of what human beings should be like.
My culture affects my morality as it values certain aspects of life more than others and preaches certain values that may not conform to social norms. For example, my religion, Jainism, preaches nonviolence and peace, and as I have been taught that since a child my sense of right or wrong is affected more by certain values (nonviolence to all living thing) more than others. Additionally with my Indian cultural background, their are different societal norms from India that don’t match up with social norms in America. This often causes moral dilemmas and conflicts.
My emotions affect my morality as I make many decisions based on how I am feeling and what feels right or wrong based on those emotions. My emotions dictate my decisions and what feels right or wrong at the time. Also I tend to do things that are right or wrong based on how it will make me feel. The way the consequence of an action affects my emotions also helps me determine what is right or wrong.
My teachers affect my morality as they teach me information that can affect my morality. They are also role models in my eyes as older adult figures. Many teachers are different and approach their jobs differently, but they all have their own effect on students’ lives. Spending time with them in school everyday can change a student’s outlook on certain aspects and make them rethink some of their decisions and moral identities.
