- - - - After the BigDog, Boston Dynamics changed their target customer from Army to public, they started to design cheap, small and multi-purpose robots. Therefore, the second generation was small, agile, and all-terrain. and it was reached by using those six "legs". Un like "BigDog" that requires complex systems since its bionic legs, RHEX has no suspension, no bionic legs, an those six"legs" made it cheap, small, all-terrain and public
        
        This robot seems like based on RHEX, but not the same generation, and has greater capability. This robot could jump up to 10m in the air. From now, Boston Dynamics back to military use, and this is for scout in the city, since it cannot maneuver on harsh environment, such as ice and snow.
        
        Now step into a new era, LS3 for military uses and Wildcat. They seems pretty similar to the BigDog, however, there are significant differences between them. Wildcat aimed for speed and LS3 aimed for transportation, like BigDog. To its function, Wildcat could speed up to 32km/h and maintain balance while turning, this robot is the fastest quadruped robot on Earth, it represent the development on speed and balance for a robot, and a experiment on fast robot by Boston Dynamics.
        
        SPOT
        
        SPOT Classic, the breakthrough point of Boston Dynamics. SPOT was developed for both indoor AND outdoor situations. The most significant difference between SPOT and previous robots is its weight, agility of course, and the appropriateness to different kind of situation. First, it became small, very small since it doesn't require that much of capability on carrying stuffs, and it uses electricity as power, which means there's no noisy, "it is the quietest robot that they ever made". second since its small size, it could move much faster in harsh environment such as snow and mud than the BigDog series. What the most important, is the customization of SPOT. Since SPOT faced to public and businesses, with 74000$ per each, there are else things that could be installed to fulfill its purpose on a specific field. For example a better 360 degrees camera could be installed, or even a hydraulic arm. And that's why SPOT is powerful.
        
        LS3, the last generation of BigDog project, was designed for military use and carrying munitions for soldiers. It has many improvements based on BigDog, such as better sustainability, more steady, could carry more munitions. But all the products of BigDog project has a crucial problem, too noisy. Because of the requirements on their load capability, they need huge body and a powerful engine to move, therefore they use gas engine, but not electric, which creates much greater level of noise than the other, and that's the reason why the BigDog project has discontinued.
