Transient global amnesia is a benign amnestic syndrome which often has good prognosis as it is short-lived, resolving within 24hours.
RISK FACTORS
CAUSES OF AMNESIA
- Nutritional disorder particularly thiamin deficiency
- head injury that affects the brain
- Disorders such as strokes and cardiac arrest
- Seizures
- Encephalitis
- Alzheimer disease
- Chronic alcohol abuse
- Brain tumor
- Severe mental stress
- Use of antidepressants and muscle relaxants
- Hypothalamic tumors
- Psychologic trauma or stress
- Side effects of medication
DEFINITION
Amnesia is difficulty in learning new information or remembering past events, it can result broadly from psychological or neurological factors.
