Inflammation Crash Course
Repair and Resolution
Repair
Skin is regenerated but a scar is left which is less functional
The scar is more prone to UV and won't sweat/grow hair
Supporting cells and tissues regenerate
Resolution
The release of mediators and molecules to reverse the inflammatory response
Cellular Stage
Complement Proteins are attracted to pathogens, making it easier for phagocytes to destroy the pathogen
Neutrophils from capillaries and macrophages from near-by tissues:
Are attracted by cytokines
Remove debris from the area
Engulf bacteria present
Macrophages release cytokines, attracting more phagocytic cells
Pus containing dead immune cells is released
Vascular Stage
Mast cells release histamines causing vasodilation
Blood Vessels become more permeable and increase in diameter, allowing for more blood-flow to the area
Histamines also attract phagocytes
