Salpingectomy
Definition
Surgical removal of one or both fallopian tubes
Indications
Ectopic pregnancy
Blocked fallopian tube
Ruptured fallopian tube
Fallopian tube cancer
Post operative care
Check for any signs of excessive vaginal blood loss
Check for bowel functions
Remove the urinary catheter after 8 hrs if the urine is clear
Monitor vital signs and observe for any peaks
Administration of antibiotics to prevent infection
Regular check up of the uterus if it is well contracted
Pre operative care
Ensure that the patients bladder is empty
Ensure that the patients has signed the consent
Ensure the patient that she will be under anesthesia through out the surgery
Starve the patient six hours before the surgery
Parietal care is advised to prevent infection
Allow family members before surgery to provide emotional support
Complications
Hernia
Damage to blood vessels or nearby organs
Internal bleeding
Risk of infection due to incision
