Definition
Procedure to remove tissue inside uterus
Dr performing dilatation and curettage to diagnose and treat uterine conditions such as:
Heavy bleeding
Clearing of uterine lining after miscarriage or abortion
Pre operation care
It is important that patient is kept on Nil per os for atleast 6 hours prior procedure
Painkillers may be prescribed prior procedure
Sedative may be used to relieve anxiety about surgery
Genital area must be shaved and prepared for surgery
Enema flee or laxative may be given to clear bowel prior surgery
Post operation care
Use sanitary napkin
Medication be administered as ordered by doctor
Refrain from sexual intercourse and tampon use for a week
Consult doctor if pain is severe after being discharged

Irregular bleeding
Menorhagia
Abnormal uterine bleeding
Suspected malignant
Retained material in endometrial cavity
