Salpingectomy
Indications
A block fallopian tube
A ruptured fallopian tube
An infection
A fallopian tube cancer
Postoperative care
Remove urinary catheter after 8 hours if the urine is clear
Regularly palpate the uterine fundus to ensure that the uterus remains contracted.
Observe the mother closely until the effect of the anaesthetic has worn off.
Control pain if it is severe, the patient will need IV morphine.
Bowel function should ge normal after 12 hours
Preoperative care
The patient is reassured that pain will be controlled by anasthesia
The family is involved before surgery to give emotional support
The patient is advised to do perineal care to prevent infection
The patient should be advised to not eat anything 6bhours before the surgery
The patient is advise to empty the bladder before surgery
Complications
Damage to blood vessels or nearby organs
Hernia
Internal bleeding or bleeding at the surgical site
Infection
Defination
It is a surgical removal of one or both fallopian tubes.
