The theme of a poem is its central or main idea, the lesson or message of the poem.
Examples: Love, Death, Spirituality, Nature, Aging.
1. THEME
Example: The green grass grew in the graveyard.
Alliteration involves the repetition of the initial consonant sound of a series of words.

2. STANZA
Stanzas are a series of lines that are group together and separated from other group of lines by a skipped line.
Examples: Couplet, Tercet, Quatrain, Quintain, Sestet, Septet, Octave
4. RHYME SCHEME
Rhyme Scheme can be determined by marking similarly rhyming lines of the poem with a letter of the alphabet.
Example: AABB CDCD

Repetition of end sounds is called rhyme.
Examples: Sand-Land, Way-Day, Voice-Choice
6. HYPERBOLE
Hyperbole is defined as an intentionally exaggerated description or comparison
Example: I am super hungry – I am so hungry I could eat a horse.
7. ONOMATOPOEIA
A word formed through a sound is called Onomatopoeia.
Example: Tick-Tock! Time is running out.
Example: The engineer tried to steer, out of fear of veering near the dear deer.
Assonance involves the repetition of the internal vowel sounds.

Example: Life is a roller-coaster.
Metaphor make comparisons between things by stating that one thing is literally something else.

Example: These cookies are as hard as a rock.
Similes work by saying something is similar to something else, they commonly come in two forms: as, like.

Example: The cookies are calling my name.
Personification gives human qualities and feelings to things that are not human like animals or objects.

Tone / Mood is the author’s attitude or the atmosphere and emotion in the poem created by the poet .
Examples: Joyful, Sad, Optimistic, Romantic.
Examples: Sun and Flower, Sun and Flower
Repetition occurs when poets repeat words, phrases, or lines in a poem.

Examples: Blank and Think, Strong and String.
Consonance involves the repetition of consonant sounds in nearby words, especially at the end of words.

Imagery engages the human senses; see, hear, taste, touch, smell. It represents object, action, and idea which appeal our senses
Example: Word spread like leaves in a storm.
