Definition
A benign smooth muscle tumor, usually in the uterus or gastrointestinal tract. Also called fibroid

Pathophysiology
Fibroids begin as single or multiple seedlings in the myometrium and grow gradually over a long period.
They may cause presssure in the pelvis resulting in pain ,urinary frequency, urgency and constipation.
The intramural fibroid may also interfere with uterine contraction resulting in abnormal bleeding during menstruation.
This could be menorrhagia,hyper- menorrhoea and metrorrhagia.

Nursing interventions
Provide time to listen to concerns and fears of patient and SO. Discuss patient’s perceptions of self-related to anticipated changes and her specific lifestyle
Assess the emotional stress the patient is experiencing. Identify the meaning of loss for patient and SO. Encourage patient to vent feelings appropriately
Provide accurate information, reinforcing information previously given
