Internal recruitment (when a vacancy is filled by someone who is in an existing employee of the business
Advantages :
- Quicker and cheaper than external recruitment, which may involve expensive advertising
- The person is already known to the business and their reliability, ability and potential are known
- The person also knows how the organisation works, its structure and what is expected from its employees
- It can be very motivating for employees to see their fellow workers being promoted
Disadvantages :
- No new ideas or experience come into the business
- May be rivalry among existing employees and jealousy towards the worker who gets the promotion
- The quality of internal candidates might be low

Recruitment and selection - Businesses need to start this process when :
- An employee leaves their job and they need to be replaced
- It is a new business starting up and needs employees
- It is a successful business and wants to expand by employing more people
Recruitment proccess gives the business the opportunity to assess the role of employees, the nature of their jobs and future workforce requirements
- Job analysis identifies and records the responsibilities and tasks relating to a job
- Job description outlines the responsibilities and duties to be carried out by someone employed to do a specific job
- Job specification is a document which outlines the requirements, qualifications, expertise, physical characteristic of a job
- Job advertised in appropriate media
- Application forms and shortlisting

How to advertise :
- Local newspapers
- National newspapers
- Specialist magazines
- Online recruitment sites
- Recruitment agencies

Methods of application - A job advertisement will require the applicant to apply in writing which can either be done by filling in an application form or by writing a letter of application and enclosing a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
Methods of selection :
- The applicant's ability to do the job
- Any personal qualities that are an advantage or disadvantage
- The general character and personality of the applicant - will they fit in?
