MODE OF TRANSPORT OF THE DRUG - Coggle Diagram
MODE OF TRANSPORT OF THE DRUG
PASSIVE DIFFUSION
drug moves from higher conc. to low conc.
does not involve carrier
not saturable
low structural specificity
mostly lipid soluble drugs
water: penetrate through aqueous channels/ pores
FACILITATED DIFFUSION
large drugs can enter cell through specialized transmembrane carrier proteins
undergo conformational change
move from high conc. to low conc.
no need energy
can be saturated
may be inhibited
ACTIVE TRANSPORT
involve specific carrier protein
energy-dependent
driven by hydrolysis of ATP
saturable
drug moves against conc.
ENDOCYTOSIS
very large drug transport across cell membrane
engulf drug molecule by cell membrane
trabsport into cell by pinching off drug filled vesicle
e.g; vit B12 transport across gut wall
EXOCYCTOSIS
very large size drugs tansport across cell membrane
reverse of endocytosis
used by cells to secrete many substances by a same vesicle formation process
e.g; neurotansmitters stored in membrane bound vesicles in nerve terminal and released by exocytosis
