ORAL CANCER PREVENTION
Steps a dental checkup should include
Step 3: Double-Digit Probe
Examine the floor of the mouth from the top and bottom simultaneously
Step 4: Palate Tickle
Check the roof of the mouth for lumps
Check the areas of softness on the hard palate, looking for white and red patches.
Step 2: Lip & Cheek Roll
Feel for lumps or bumps
Look for white or red areas that shouldn't be there
Step 5: Neck Caress
Palpate the neck for enlarged lymph nodes
Step 1: Tongue'n Gauze
This is the most common site of oral cancers in non-smokers.
Examine the sides and bottom for white and red spots.
Extend your tongue
Feel the tongue for lumps.
Step 6: Tonsil Ahhhhhhh
Depress the tongue with a dental mirror
Examine the tonsils for symmetry, enlargement, redness, or unusual bulges.
Symptoms important
Chronic hoarseness
Non-tender lump in neck
Pain in mouth or ear
Abnormal swallowing
Persistent mouth sore
Peculiar sore throat

It is used to determine if there is the presence of cancer or another infection
