Leg Amputation - Coggle Diagram
Leg Amputation
Steps:
Skin incision
Circumfrential around limb at the distal third of the femur
Leave lateral aspect a little further distal than medial
Medial Side First
Ligate Femoral Vessels
Done seperately
Triple ligate
Combination of circumferential and transfixing
Use strong suture
Transect Muscle to reveal quadriceps
Cut caudal belly of sartorius
Cut pectineus
Cut this through musculotendinous junction
Small muscle just caudal to femoral vessels
Transect Muscles
Gracilis
Mid-femoral level
Caudal belly of Sartorius
Lateral Side Next
Transect Muscle
Transect biceps femoris at same level as quadriceps
Cut Quadriceps group just proximal to patella
Cut Sciatic nerve at the level of the third trochanter
Transect muscles
Semimembranosus
Semitendonosus
Adductors
At mid femoral level
Elevate insertion of adductor muscles from femur
Cut the femur!
Use a saw
Cut at midpoint of proximal and middle thirds of the diaphysis
Closure
Forward and back
Quadriceps muscle flaps caudally to cover femur
Suture to adductors
Side to Side
Biceps femoris flapped medially to cover femu
Suture to Gracilis and semitendinosus
Close Subcutaneous tissue and skin
