Fun nights
we do pizza / ice cream nights like Halloween in July or Christmas in July where we watch those movies out of season and have a party in the Livingroom and junk out

Holidays and Celebrations
Christmas
Growing up we always went to a movie on Christmas as a family with my grandmother - we still try to do that with my kids sometimes
-
Hanukah
My husband sings the Menorah in Hebrew while my kids scream at him because they don't like singing but I love it. Sometimes I join in. We sometimes do the chocolate coins and they each get one pressie the first and last day of the holiday.
My husband typically makes potato latkes with sour cream for me and apple sauce for him (I hate applesauce)
4th of July
- we always go out to dinner at Lucilles and then watch the fireworks at the mall and camp out in the parking lot nearby - sometimes we run around and hand out glow sticks to kids

When traveling through Europe I learned that if I pack clothes that I don't care about, I can throw them away and make more room for souvenirs. I also learned that travel culture means that if you try the language of the land you are in, people are much more likely to help you. One should be humble and not imposing when visiting another country and it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with a map and some of the customs so as to not create any uncomfortable circumstances
There are also different outlets so one needs an adapter. Make sure credit card companies know you are travelling so that they don't cancel your cards thinking you were hacked or you information stolen (have some cash / currency from the area on hand in case there are power outages or you want to buy cool stuff from a street vendor).
In Egypt I learned that the water was not something American's can drink - even ice would make us sick. On my tour everyone became sick (I was so vigilant and paranoid that I didn't get sick because I didn't even eat fruit or anything raw that used water from the ground).
Pay attention to the weather where you are going or any laws that may be different. Some places may require certain dress codes (many European churches do not allow shoulders to be shown)

for nature trips I try tp pack clothes I can hike in and that are easily interchangeable. Research weather and road closures. Some national parks have restrictions on parking and entries or require reservations to enter.
