Tulcán Cemetery, one of the most curious places to see in Ecuador
In Tulcán, the capital of Carchi, you can visit a very curious place. Yes, it is a cemetery, but it is an open-air museum thanks to its figures made from cypress trees. They are a real blast!
Located in Tulcán on Av. Cementerio and Cotopaxi, in the center of the city, a few meters from Parque Isidro Ayora.
We toured the “Parque de los Recuerdos” with its natural sculptures representing the Pasto, Tolita, Jama-Coaque and Cotocollao cultures. In addition, we find stone sculptures, such as the Virgin of Quito. Finally, we went through the labyrinths formed with cypresses.
It is ironic to do tourism in the Tulcán cemetery. It is a place of respect for what it represents, but at times it was inevitable to happily walk around with the children, run, laugh and take pictures.
