often the 1st personal contact between WSBC and a worker/employer

Responds inquiries from workers/employers, and service providers on all system-owned claims

Maintains worker/employer profiles

provides workers with a clear understanding of what they can expect from the claims process and services offered by WSBC

Makes proactive decisions on:
-Wage loss claims with up to 4 weeks of short-term disability

Adjudicates eligibility decisions for claims

Communicates claim and injury eligibility decisions to affected parties

Authorizes entitlement of short-term wage loss & appropriate health care benefits

May work with a Medical Advisor on their claim files

-Routine health care only claims

Determines the difference between the average net earnings (actual or estimated) of the worker

Support workers and their families during medical recovery and builds relationships with employers, workers, and stakeholders to ensure successful return to to work.

May work in specialized areas such as occupational disease, sensitive claims, activity-related soft tissue disorders, or hearing loss.

Responsible for health care management and RTW planning for specialty and complex claims and/or claims with an extended period of disability

Works with a core team: Service Coordinator, Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant, and Medical Advisor.

Identify and investigate instances of discrepancies and suspected fraud of other violations under the Act as requested by adjudication staff, Legal Services, and others.

Protects and recovers WorkSafeBC assets that have been, or are in the process of being, compromised.

Expected disability duration, and physical restrictions and limitations on a temporary or permanent basis.

Outcomes regarding permanent impairment and maximum medical recovery (plateau)

Causation, diagnosis, and pre-existing conditions

A Medical Advisor assists in clinical management and return-to-work plans within the return-to-work team and community physicians.

Conducts clinical interviews and administers and interprets psychological tests.

Produces oral and written recommendations and reports regarding the nature, degree, and course of psychological effects following injury, and rehabilitation.

performs psychological evaluations of injured workers for consulting and diagnosed purposes.

manages claims within specific injury guidelines, including managing health care and return-to-work time-loss benefits.

coordinates the efforts of employers and service providers in the return-to-work plan.

administering payments authorized by a Case Manager.

managing overpayments and underpayments on claims.

Providing administrative assistance to benefit injured workers.

responding to worker, employer, and provider inquiries.

they are external medical professionals who provide assessments and expert opinions on investigations and surgical treatment on an expedited basis.

implementing appropriate programs or training.

developing and implementing vocational rehabilitation plans when return to work involves a new job.

assessing the employment handicap.

gathers and weighs evidence regarding employment history, status, work pattern, and earnings information.

applies relevant law, policy, and practice to categorize the worker and to decide which earnings to include.

estimates the impairment of earnings capacity by determining the nature and degree of the worker's loss function resulting from the permanent condition.

oversee quality and management of various aspects of the claim.

promote a quality, service-oriented approach to external and internal clients.
