The beginning of the war
Germany and Italy taking over countries. The allies didn't do anything until Germany attempted to invade Poland.

Chamberlain still aimed to solve war diplomatically and air dropped propaganda leaflets over Germany.
Winston Churchill took over from Chamberlain. Germany had managed to take over France and so UK were alone.

Why did it start?

March 1939 - Germany starts to invade and take over nearby countries such as Czechslovakia and Austria - making France and Britain uncomfortable but they hold back on interfering as they are reluctant to start another World War.
Adolf Hitler had been a soldier in WW1 - super patriotic and was angry about Germany's humiliation after losing the war.
Germany, Italy and Japan all felt they were superior and felt negatively towards the allies.
