The Aboriginal prayer and the pastoral letter are comparable in that they both urge us to care for our planet. They are discussing giving back to our planet since we rely on it to exist. They talk about thanking Mother Earth for providing us with life. They differ significantly in that the pastoral letter discusses all of the challenges that the Earth is facing and how we are ruining it. The pastoral letter goes into depth on the small things that the Earth provides us and how we take them for granted, such as water: "Water is the wellspring of all life, and a major symbol in religious traditions." Water purifies, cleanses, refreshes, and inspires. The bible talks of living streams, becoming a spring of living water, longing for running water, and justice flowing like a mighty torrent." The letter discusses our numerous errors as humans and how we might use the Bible and God's words to restore our earth. The Aboriginal prayer, on the other hand, is personal and all about thanking Mother Nature and promising to do better in the future. It talks about how we need to give back because humans are a burden, and how "the air is filled with poisons; to the chemicals, sewage, and vehicle emissions; to dumps that leach through and contaminate you and your blood waters, to the thieves in the night who steal your blood waters for sale to the highest bidder, thereby ensuring their own death sentence."
