Nuance is important in communication. It is the opposite of Binary or Digital thinking. It is 'either' 'or' thinking.

Binary thinking played a large part in early human development. Evolution passed through several levels of judgment required as the human brain expanded.
- Fight or Flight (for survival)
- Us and Them (competition for ressources)

Climate change is one such issue. Brexit another - they are complex, and the solutions are not absolutes. Both 'sides' wish to make it binary.

Our current culture is trying to stop us appreciating nuance, and 'grow up'.
Politicians want us to accept things are a simpler choice between 2 alternatives than they are really. e.g. 'It is right that....', 'We had to take a brave decision', 'You can either do this or that'.. Binary thinking tends to be partisan or group thinking
Adverts, journalists and media tend to simplify issues and facts, although they are always more complicated.
Learning nuance is an adult skill - children start using binaries to judge things, which gradually become subtle when an adult
