Energy sources
Renewable energy sources
Wind power
Wind turbines are electricity generators. The wind moves the blades around which turns the generator to make electricity. They are not reliable because there is not always wind. The advantages of wind power are it is a renewable source, it doesn’t use greenhouse gases, and it is cost effective. The disadvantages of wind power are that it is not reliable because it is not always windy, they make noise, and they don’t look nice.
Solar power

Energy is transferred to us from the sun by solar radiation. In solar heating panels either in solar farms or on roofs the suns energy can be used to heat water.
Where only small amounts of electricity are needed like calculators and watches solar cells are used.
Hydroelectric power
Hydroelectric power is generated when rainwater in a reservoir flows downhill and drives turbines that turn electricity at the bottom of the hill. The advantages are they are a renewable source and doesn’t use greenhouse gases, and it is also reliable. The disadvantages are they impact the environment, they are expensive, they aren’t always safe and there are limited reservoirs.
Tidal power
Tidal power stations work when it is high tide and they can trap water behind a barrage. The high tide is released into sea through turbines which drive generators in the barrage. The advantages of tidal power is they are reliable because the tide will always come in and they are renewable and they have a higher energy density than the other renewable energy sources, but the disadvantages are the construction cost is very high and there are few suitable sites, the affect on animals and habitats is also bad.

Non-Renewable energy is energy that comes from an earth source that is finite and will take billions of years to replenish so it will run out.
