How to Reduce Nervousness
:star: Work your wrists, arms and shoulders to get the tension out of them. Gentle movements, not a major workout, will remove that tension
:star: Work your jaw. Gentle side-to-side or circular
motion will help to loosen it
:star: Do not let your legs go to sleep. Keep the blood supply moving. Keep both feet on the floor and lean forward. Wiggle your toes. If you can stand up without disturbing anybody, do so
:star: Repeat positive affirmations quietly to yourself. “I am a good presenter.” It may seem corny but it works
:star: Walk off your excessive nervousness. If possible, walk outside and get some fresh air at the same time. But a walk down the corridor is better than no walk
:star: Above all, breathe deeply. Make sure your
stomach is going out when you breathe in
:star: Do not get hung up about being nervous. It is a normal human reaction. Do not make yourself more nervous because you are nervous
:star: Loosen the vocal chords and warm them
up
Get Organized
:star: Ahead of time, carefully plan out the information you want to present, including any props, audio or visual aids. The more organized you are, the less nervous you will be. Use an outline on a small card to stay on track. If possible, visit the place where you will be speaking and review available equipment before your presentation
Get Support
:star: Join a group that offers support for people who have difficulty with public speaking. One effective resource is Toastmasters, a nonprofit organization with local chapters that focuses on training people in speaking and leadership skills
